Proudly brought to you by Beyond The Vale Publishing and Turn The Page Distribution, the entries have been read, the judging has been done and I must say, wow, congratulations to all for the excellent standard of creative writing!
THE 2023 SASCWC WINNERS ARE ABOUT TO BE ANNOUNCED.
Before we do, let’s remember that the winning entries will be professionally edited, typeset and published in a compilation book that will be presented to the authors and to their schools. There are also online shopping vouchers for the top 3 in each age category.
A quick recap firstly. The entrants were judged on creativity and their story. No marks were removed for spelling, punctuation or grammar.
The entrants could write anything as long as their story fell into the following broad categories:
A day in the life of:
- A superhero
- An alien
- A sports star
- An animal of any kind
The word count had to be between 1,000 and 3,000 words. Points were deducted for word counts outside of this range.
The three age categories were:
10 to 12
13 to 15
16 to 18
And today I’m going to announce the top 3 in each age group and the overall winner.

IN THIRD PLACE:

“Good start, lots of detail, nice twist in the middle and an unexpected end”

THE OVERALL WINNER
Having read through all the winning entries, there was one entry that I thought was absolutely phenomenal. I was so impressed that Beyond The Vale Publishing is going to award R1000 to spend on any Beyond The Vale books available in the DotDot.Direct online shopping site.
