About the author

Alexa Fortune is a South African Poetess, English Teacher and avid traveller, who finds her purpose in writing literature and learning new languages. She speaks English, German and Afrikaans.

Alexa studied Neuropsychology and German Language and Literature at the University of Cape Town, where she acquired her Honorary Degree in the latter. She began her writing journey at the young age of 9 years old. She soon realised her true calling when she started exploring and posting her poetry on Instagram in 2015.

As a child, she would read many books and use writing as an outlet for her creativity. Having always been a deep thinker and lover of all things literature and psychology, she was greatly inspired by many classic and modern-day poets. They can range from German novelists to aspiring Instagram writers.

Alexa can be found on Instagram by her handle @coffeepoetrysundays, where she uses her writing to heal, grow and inspire others to embrace their individuality and vulnerability by sharing her unapologetic truth. Some topics that may be found on her page include the heart, soul, love, self-love, affirmations, racism, mental health and coming of age anecdotes.

When she isn’t writing, she can be found travelling throughout Asia as a Foreign English Teacher or using her German skills in the workplace. She loves being out in nature, drinking coffee and enjoying Sundays exploring the scenic routes of Cape Town with her loved ones.

Her Debut book Hearts Breaking Free is a collection of poetry and prose, carefully selected over the last 5 years explaining her experiences from childhood to her early thirties. It gives the reader a better insight into her self-love journey and how losing/outgrowing relationships ultimately meant finding her best self in the end.
