Self-Publishing – FAQs

Hi Everyone,

I am asked many queries about self-publishing, and I’m happy to personally reply to everyone who queries. I have compiled some of the more common queries below.

The weeks progress

Yet another busy week here in the Vale. Another book has just been printed and I’ll be taking that to the client at the weekend – look out for that in nest weeks newsletter. We’re looking at launching another four books in the coming weeks! Exciting times for us.

On a personal writing update, I’m still working on draft 2 of book 5 of the Puzzle Train series – Puzzle Mansion. 16 chapters down, around 2,000 words added – 16 chapters to go!

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

  1. What is self-publishing? In a nutshell, this means that the author publishes their own books, as opposed to having a traditional publisher publish them on behalf of the author. The author incurs the costs but then takes all the revenue.

  2. Who is responsible for marketing? Responsibility lies with the author. We have been doing this for a while, so can offer advice.

  3. Who owns the copyright? At Beyond The Vale Publishing, we firmly believe that the copyright always belongs to the author at all times.

  4. How does the editing process work? We like to have your script as a Word document. We will go through your work using the “track changes” function so you can see the changes we make. We will look at the grammar and sentence structure, but also ensure that there are no inconsistencies in your story.

  5. What kind of stories do you take? We take any stories, from biographies, self motivational books to books about vampires and werewolves. If you want your story turned into a book, just send it through.

  6. Can I use my own picture for the cover? Yes, we would love to use your pictures. Just be careful if you’re downloading pictures off the internet that you’re not infringing someone else’s copyright.
