Book Fair – Author Profile – Buhle Skosana

Buhle Skosana – author of Thee ‘Beauty’Full Anthology – a collection of poems and musings.

What inspired you to first start writing?

For as long as I understood the concept of a career, I’ve wanted to become a writer. Many children’s books also fuelled that goal such as “Dork Diaries”.

Tell us a little about your book – Thee ‘Beauty’ful Anthology –

What’s it about?

Where did the idea come from?

I decided to create this anthology as a simple representation of life. The start indicates when one is young and learns new things about the journey of life. The speaker then goes through a severe mental health decline. Which could also represent people going through a difficult time. Then the book speaks about the healing process and conquering the pain and tribulations that life throws at us. I wanted to be the voice of people who may be struggling with their mental health- just to remind them that they are not alone and to encourage them.         •Some of the poems are as old as 7 years, such as “(Un)conditional Love” while some are just a year or two old. It’s a compilation of all the pieces/writings  I have created since grade 6. Placed in intricately to make sense with the phases of life.

Do you have a favourite time/place to write?

I call myself an intuitive writer. What that basically means is I’m never sure when inspiration will hit me. I usually get the best ideas in the shower or during my sleep but I believe my favourite time to write is a Sunday afternoon with Slow Jams playing in the background.

Do you have any plans for your next book?

I have a few ideas in mind but a book needs quite a bit of time. I am busy with other small projects which can be found on my instagram @_.princess._buhle._

What’s your favourite book to read (or genre or author)?

My favourite genres are hands down murder-mysteries and fiction. I guess you could say I’m a true kid at heart. I like reading poetry more than anything so my favourite writers at the moment are  Rupi Kaur and Micheal Tavon

What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

When I’m not writing, I’m making music. I actually have an alternative E.P coming out on the 23rd of July🦋. I also sell beauty and wellness products as well as study. I’m in my first year studying Bcom Informatics. 🤍
